Firm Profile
At the Law Offices of Stephen Proudlove, we take pride in the representation of our clients, and work tirelessly to ensure the best outcome for our clients. We are a relationship-oriented firm, and we stand on our representation and our continued busy practice as testament to our success. The vast majority of our clients are referred to the firm by past or current clients of the firm, which speaks directly to our excellent history of representation. It also enures to the benefit of our ongoing and prospective clients, as we know we are only as good as our reputation, adding a strong impetus to continue in the fashion that made us a busy firm in the first place.
We will vigorously defend our clients, and we treat every client with an excess of dignity, respect and attention. We fight diligently for our clients, and the litigation of Charter-based applications and remedies is the hallmark of our practice. We engage each and every case fearlessly, and our reputation for doing so is well-earned, and well-known.
Our bottom line and primary focus is to secure the best result. Finances come second for us, and we engage a variety of billing models to best suit our individual client’s interests, including delayed payment planning, composite (block) fees, and in some cases, the Ontario Legal Aid Plan. We recognize that the process of being arrested and charged with a criminal offense is a significantly traumatic event to any person, and the added stress of paying for a lawyer is not something you will encounter here. We work with, and trust, our clients in order to find the most accommodating way to deal with the expense of legal representation.
Many of our clients are custodial inmates, and we service Courts primarily in Toronto, Oshawa, Newmarket and Brampton. However, we also appear, and have appeared, in Kingston, Belleville, Lindsay, Peterborough, Cobourg, Guelph, Kitchener, London, Barrie, Orangeville, Milton, and several other jurisdictions in Ontario. We do reserve the right to refuse any case, and if you are charged with cruelty offences against animals, or sexual offences involving children, including child pornography-related offences, it is unlikely that we will accept your case.
Services
As a boutique Criminal Defense and Appeals practice, we engage all aspects of representation in every level of Court in Ontario. We tend to be more litigation-oriented, meaning that although we will negotiate an excellent resolution of your matters if that is required, we do focus on trials, and particularly Charter-related defences. We have represented clients facing virtually all offences, from the simplest through the most complex of cases and charges. Our experience in complex Charter litigation always serves as a backdrop to any representation.
